Databricks Cost Changes Analysis
Cost Changes is the period-over-period investigation page. It answers questions such as “what increased this week?” and “which job or team caused the spike?” without manually exporting billing data. Legacy Cost Explorer links for comparison and trends redirect to this page.
Comparison
Section titled “Comparison”Compares the selected period with a previous period. Choose Previous period, Same period last month, or Same period last year from the comparison selector. Rows show the current spend, previous spend, absolute delta, and percentage change.
Use this tab to:
- Find the largest cost increases and decreases in jobs and pipelines.
- Identify new work units that did not run in the comparison period.
- Identify discontinued work units that ran in the comparison period but not in the current period.
- Apply minimum absolute-dollar and percentage-change thresholds; these thresholds are saved in the browser.
- Compare ranges up to 364 days; longer selections are capped before querying the API.
- Deep-link into related Work Unit detail pages.
Trends
Section titled “Trends”Shows longer-running movement over time. Use it to distinguish a one-day anomaly from a sustained trend.
Reading deltas
Section titled “Reading deltas”- Absolute delta is usually best for finance review because it shows dollars that changed.
- Percentage delta is useful for small but fast-growing workloads; treat high percentages on tiny baselines with caution.
- No previous cost means the resource is new in the comparison window or the prior period had no matching cost after filters.
Global filters
Section titled “Global filters”Cost Changes respects the global time range, workspace, organization, tag, and cost-mode controls. If a row disappears after changing filters, the underlying cost no longer matches the selected scope.
